17 Cobras teed it up at Childwall on 22nd May 2025; the glorious weather we have been experiencing continued and the course was in great condition. Host captain John Jones gave everyone a present as is customary .... containing a ball marker, club cleaner, a fortune cookie and a souvenir Naga (Brass Cobra) . It can be a bag tag ornament - take pics and put on WhatsApp if you take him on holiday!
The day started with the usual Bacon Butties and Coffee on arrival. Due to the odd number of players, it was decided we would have an individual Stableford points single's match, as this would be best suited for all to play on the day. The pairings were selected by the randomiser with the following groupings:-
Group 1
John Jones, Paul Evans, Alan Acheson
Group 2
Simon Harwood, David Blake, David Hest
Group 3
Tristram Lesser, Dave Pennington, Martyn Croft
Group 4
Ronnie Turner, Keith Reilly, Paul Robley, Ronnie Samuel
Group 5
Vic Gurney, Dave Gregson, Martyn Green, Andy Killeen
The course proved tough (especially to the Links players)! So after a good day's golf in the sunshine, everyone met on the patio for an aperitif of their favourite beer, before sitting down to a wonderful wholesome meal of Angus Beef Pie and Chips, peas and fried shallots, followed by a wonderful poached pear and coconut ice cream.
The results were as follows:
1st Martyn Croft. 39 points
2nd Paul Robley. 36 points
Nearest the Pin, (nearly a hole in one) – 16th – David Hest
Longest Drive, (270 yard monster)! – 18th – Ronald Samuel
Captains Charity – We'll Care, Liverpool - £80.00 - Thank you all, as my youngest son who is handicapped attends this centre
To close all attendees assembled on the balcony for a group photo and as the sun was setting and the long shadows were creeping up the fairways it was time for everyone to travel home safely. Thank you all for attending and keep smiling!
