Gathurst

It was a great honour to host the 2025 Captains of the SLGC, the Cobras, to Gathurst on 18 July 2025.

Weather forecast was for a hot day 26 deg C; we were therefore set for the day - the weather conditions, the course and the greens were as good as they could be. No excuses then for the golf itself.........

The day started with the welcoming of the Cobras, making sure the bacon barm breakfast was provided for all. As is the tradition, memorabilia for the day was handed to the guests.

Paul Robley (Cobra's secretary) prepared the competition cards for Stableford format competition, with addiitonal prizes available for nearest the pin on the 13th and 15th, nearest to the hole in 2 on the 14th and for any 2’s.

Clocks were synchronised (well not quite!), Cobras were ready to strike & take on the challenge and off we went.......

Group 1: Vic Guney (Host Captain), Dave Pennington & SImon Harwood

Group 2: John Jones, Dave Blake & Ronnie Samuel

Group 3: Keith Reilly, Martyn Croft, Paul Robley & Andy Killeen

Group 4: Mike Robertson, Alan Acheson, Dave Hest & Ronan McGrath

Group 5: Ronnie Turner, Paul Evans & Dave Gregson

Refreshments followed golf together with an early dining experience and relaxing on the patio.

My thanks to all attended. The overall winner was Paul Robley but congratulations to all the winners on the day.

Your complementary remarks to condition of the course and the greens was forwarded to the greens staff.

I look forward to many more Cobras meetings. The future is ours to experience.
