20 Cobras teed it up at Lee Park on May 14th 2025 for our third Cobra day.......

We enjoyed the customary breakfast bap and tea/coffee on arrival and a gift from the host Captain. The competition format was a 4 person Texas scramble, 5 teams of 4 with 4 tee-shots needed by each player. Paul did a sterling job in organising the teams such that the team handicaps were fairly even.
Group 1 (9 shots): Vic Gurney, Ronan McGrath, Dave Gregson, John Jones
Group 2 (6 shots): Mike Robertson, Paul Robley, Dave Blake, Paul Evans
Group 3 (7 shots): Andy Killeen, Dave Hest, Tristram Lesser, Ronnie Turner (and Joey Cain photobombing!)
Group 4 (8 shots): Dave Pennington, Dale Kenningham, Joey Cain, Alan Acheson
Group 5 (8 shots): Martyn Green, Ken Gibson, Ronnie Samuel, SImon Harwood
First tee-off was at 11.15. The weather was exceptional, sunny and warm, and the course was in great condition. The greens were very consistent with the ball running true. The fairways were quite fiery following a prolonged period of dry weather.
Andy Killeen’s team made a noble effort returning a net 57 but that was only good enough for 2nd place as they lagged behind Ronan McGrath’s team (albeit with local knowledge playing a part) who scored a great net 54 which included 7 birdies.
Nearest the pin on 8th was Simon Harwood.
Nearest the pin on 10th was Ronnie Samuel.
The company enjoyed a couple of drinks on the patio in the sunshine. Dinner followed at 17.00 (sizzling ribeye steak, followed by strawberries and ice-cream); our caterers Kerry and Paul did us proud!
All in all a memorable day out. Thanks to all the Cobra captains who graced us with their presence; and for those who couldn't make it, hopefully there will be other opportunities to visit Lee Park in the near future.
