Hosting Captain Dave Pennington welcomed 23 fellow Captains to Wallasey GC and those in attendance enjoyed a bacon sandwich and the opportunity to properly meet each other for the first time in a golf setting.
Sadly, Captain of SLGC Mike Johnson along with Paul Evans, Ken Gibson, Dale Kenningham and Paul Whyte were unable to attend for golf however Paul Whyte was able to attend for dinner.
The weather was very good with light clouds and reasonably warm sunshine for the time of year. There was just enough of a light breeze to make the conditions a little more interesting.
The first tee was booked from 11.34 with 6 tee times booked. The format for the day was individual Stableford, no surprise there really, off the yellow tees. Captain Dave was in the final group with John Jones in a buggy due to an injury helping navigate the links. A rather nice experience for Dave as, in his 26 years at the club, he’d never had the luxury of such travel on the links of Wallasey.

Paul played brilliantly off 3.8 shooting a gross 74 (proper golfer) and one we will have to keep an eye on. Ronan coming second over Ronnie S on a card play off.
We also had a nearest the pin on the iconic 12th hole which was won by Cian McCaul (West Lancs) and a nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th which was won by Martyn Green (Heswall). Well done to all.
Prior to the golf t-shirts with our Cobra logo were given out with one or two being worn for the first time. A Cobra tie was also given out to each player with a number wearing them for the first time at dinner.
The individual gift to each player was well received with great credit going to the Captain’s wife Kath for her excellent presentation of the gift. It was hoped the jelly snakes (closest sweet to a Cobra shape that could be found) hidden inside the plastic egg were also enjoyed by all.
Drinks and food that followed golf went down well and all in all a great start to our golfing year.
Thanks to everyone for making it such a memorable occasion. Onwards to Formby we go for what promises to be a great golfing year.
