On a bright and sunny Friday morning, August 8th 2025, 19 Cobras gathered together at Huyton & Prescot Golf Club for the next 'Tour' event.
Sitting out on the patio furniture the Cobras were treated to tea, coffee, sausage baps and a warm welcome from host Captain, Martyn Croft.
Prior to teeing off everyone was presented with a small goody bag consisting of a score card, chocolate bar and bottle of water.
The competition format would be a stableford off full handicap - 1 x 3 ball and 4 x 4 ball with each player having an unknown partner and their respective scores would be added together. Quite a novelty and something that had not been previously considered.
The order of play was;
Group 1: Martyn Croft, Dave Blake, Alan Acheson
Group 2: Ken Gibson, Ronnie Turner, Paul Evans & Dave Pennington
Group 3: Dave Hest, Simon Harwood, Joey Cain & Ronnie Samuel
Group 4: Tony Davies, Paul Robley, Mike Robertson, Paul McManus
Group 5: Martyn Green, Vic Guney, Roman McGrath, Keith Reilly
The stage was set with the course in immaculate condition, fast greens and testing pin placements - let the golf commence!
Following golf there was time for pre dinner drinks on the patio and the usual discussions of ’what if and nearly’ .
On being seated in the Members Lounge the Cobras were presented with a commemorative Cobra pitch repairer, H&P logo ball and ball marker and a ball marker pen, together with a Cobra lapel emblem.
Apologies were made on behalf of Simon and Joey who could not stay for the meal.
The results when finally announced and apologies to Dave Pennington (who had been missed out when the results were being announced, thought he had won and the look on his face when he realised that he hadn't was priceless!) but it did raise the loudest laugh to date on any Cobras event!!!
When the pairs were revealed, we had the following result:
1st : Martyn Croft (42) / Paul Evans (27) = 69pts

The final result took into consideration that the host Captain was originally not paired with anyone and thus a random number, picked by Tony Davies (no.7) was selected and Paul Evans was the benefactor, moving from 2nd last to winner!
After Dinner drinks were then taken:
The Captains charities, The British Heart Foundation and Prostate Cancer Research benefited from the £95 donated by the Cobras so a big thank you to all.
The Captain thanked everyone for their attendance and appreciation of the comments made about their enjoyment of the day.
See you all at Wigan when we go again!!
