There were 15 cobras in attendance at Dean Wood Golf Club for the Cobra day on 30th June. The weather again was hot and humid; it never rains on a Cobra day!
Customary bacon barms and tea and coffee were served at 10.00 for an 11.00 first tee time.
Host Captain, David Hest, gave everyone in attendance a small gift which consisted of a pitch mark repairer, ball marker and golf towel embroidered with the Cobra logo.
The competition format was best two to score from three, with all three scoring on the par threes. There was also a nearest the pin on hole 4, nearest the pin in two on hole 13 and a longest drive on hole 8.
The teams were:
Group 1: John Jones, David Hest & Dave Gregson
Group 2: Andy Killeen, Dave Pennington & Ronan McGrath
Group 3: Paul Robley, Alan Acheson & Keith Reilly
Group 4: Ken Gibson, Vic Guney & Dave Blake
Group 5: Mike Robertson, Ronnie Turner & Simon Harwood
Everyone enjoyed the golf although some of the competitors were unaware of the undulation on the back nine holes and were quite surprised at how difficult it was to walk the course especially in the heat!
Following the golf, drinks were had on the patio which was followed by an early evening meal.
The results were
1st David Hest, David Gregson, John Jones (clearly local knowledge played a part also also a buggy for John!)
2nd David Blake, Vic Gurney, Ken Gibson
Nearest the pin on the 4th hole: Mike Robertson
Nearest the pin in two on the 13th hole: David Hest
Longest drive: Ken Gibson
The Captains charity for the year is Wigan and Leigh Hospice with the Captains raising £75 for the charity - thanks everyone!
The Captain closed the day by thanking all the Cobras for their attendance, wished everyone a safe journey home and hoped to see everyone at the next Cobra day at Bromborough Golf Club.
