Heswall Captain, Martyn Green welcomed the Cobras to Heswall on Monday 22nd September 2025. Originally 21 Cobras were destined to play at Heswall on 22 September but through injury, bereavement and (in one case) mild dementia, 18 of us teed it up on a beautiful late September day.
The course was still looking good and the greens running reasonably fast and true. The customary bacon rolls and coffee were served on the patio. Gift bags were handed out (including Gail’s home made tiffin). The competition format was an individual stableford with a 'ghost' partner playing off white tees so that the Cobras could play the course the way (most) members play it in competition.
Groups were pre-organised by the ever efficient Year Sec, Paul Robley (to whom we are all indebted for his great organisational skills and general chasing of those who were slow at signing up throughout the year). Thanks must also gone to our Hon Treasurer, Ronnie T, for providing the funds for prizes, catering and charity donations.
The groups were:
Group 1: Dave Gregson, Martyn Green and David Hest
Group 2: Dave Pennington, Alan Acheson, Vic Guney and Ronnie Samuel
Group 3:John Jones, Mike Robertson, Paul Robley and Tristram Lesser
Group 4: Joey Cain, Ronnie Turner and Ken Gibson
Group 5: Paul McManus, Dave Blake, Keith Reilly and Ronan McGrath
Post round drinks again on the patio whilst Gail ever helpfully sorted out the winners and FFTF order. Dinner was provided by Panache (our caterers) and, as they have all year, they excelled themselves with a most enjoyable dinner. Although this blog is a little later than intended I think Vic G still holds the record for the longest wait for the Captains Blog! It was another memorable Cobra day. thank you all so much for attending.
Whilst the Cobra golf season has come to an end I am confident that our group will continue to enjoy many more events in the years to come. ….and the winners from HGC were the two Ronnie's, messrs Samuel and Turner Well done to them!
